Thought you might be interested in this: This is, I think, HSL-51's CO's car. At least it was parked in a CO's parking slot. It also had a bunch of flower stickers on the hub caps and doors. Pretty gay. Now I doubt Craig will be the only one looking in at this. So: These are cherry trees near Camp Zama's back gate. We're nearing the end of sakura season. Sadly, the sky was sullen and the colors muted. Still, the trees are beautiful and very peaceful. I hope you all enjoy them as much as I did.

Can't believe it's one year ago I was there already. Can't see the second picture, btw.

Very cool - wonder who does Hondas in 1/72? And Honda what?
HSM-51??
Are those flowers on the wing mirrors?

HSM? I think the light helo squadrons have been reclassed as medium. I'll ask later this month during the base open house.
Yes. Flowers on the mirrors. And the hub caps and doors. They make the car look like something designed by a teenage Japanese girl. Or maybe it's an Idolmaster design! The only photo I took was the one posted here.
Maybe the way to get a 72nd Honda is to send photos of this car to Hasegawa. They seem to like stuff like this. Have you seen the new re-release of their AH-1S with the garish side art?

Looks to be a mid-90's Honda Accord. 1/72 would be tough. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find anything in 1/87 though (railroad scale), or 1/64 (Hot Wheels, etc.) And you should *definitely* be able to find a suitable diecast/resin model in 1/43.

We have a few cherry trees in Rome and when they flower and very pretty but to have so many brings a completely different sensation.

Ok. Here's the back story on this car. It is the HSM-51's CO's car. It seems the CO went to San Diego leaving his car in the care of one of his JO's. The JO's thought it worthwhile to give his car some character. Fully expecting him to be less than pleased on his return, they were disappointed to find he liked their efforts. I'm now wondering whether other CO's will do similar to their cars. The car is well decorated, but one can tell it was not done with any sort of design talent. I see I neglected to get a shot of the passenger compartment roof. If anyone is interested, I'll try to get one later. Craig - HSM. I asked. This is related to HSL squadrons' upgrades from Bravo to Romeo versions. The Bravo equipment fit was provided by Lockheed Martin. I'm not sure of the provider for the Romeo. The change in designation stems from trademark ownership of "LAMPS". While the L in HSL stood for 'Light", it was related to the LAMPS equipment. The M in HSM stands for "Maritime Strike". Other squadrons will be redisignated as they convert to Romeos.

What really I want to know now is, where are the pics of the cherry blossom HSM-51 bird. You can't tease me with a tail only hint in a pic of a girly-mobile and leave it at that!

I think HSx-51s main objective with their paint jobs is to see how complex they can get them before Hasegawa stops producing kits of them...
BTW, thanks for the pics of the OTT and highly garish paint job.

I think Hasegawa has only made one kit of their helos, unlike the 4 decal releases they did of VAW-115's E-2s.

Added above the images. All are long OOP. Good luck in the hunt. I have the 4 SH-60s, but never got the Seaking. Good link that might help with the SH-60s here. Looks like they may even have one of them. www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=145103

Thanks, Craig. I have the one from 2007. I remember seeing the one with the penguin, but never equated it with HSL-51. Guess I didn't look that closely at the box art.
My quest is going to be harder. Leonardo's was the go to place for old kits. It's either moved or gone out of business. I'll have to do some more searching.

The kit with Penguin (#00042) is TA-00/164850; the red-tailed Samurai kit (#DT144) is TA-02/161564, and the HSL-51 "Warlords" kit (#DT123) is TA-01/162575

I have high res scans of the decals and paint guides for 00042, DT123 and DT144 if they are of interest.
On June 1, I'll be starting a build of the Hobby Boss 1/72 SH-60F as the ComSeventhFlt VIP bird from HSL/M-51.

Yeah, I'm interested in those scans.
I think I have some shots taken of HSL-51's Admiral Barge parked away someplace on the computer. I'll dig around for them. I think there were a shot or two of the passenger's compartment.
I hope you'll post some WIP photos. Interested on your take on HB's SH-60 kits.

Been busy. Got these drawn up and printed today. Somewhere, I am sure I have seen a picture of this aircraft with the stylised eyes of Musashi-san in white on the horizontal stabiliser, but have not been able to confirm or deny. Would add a little visual interest.

these look like the current markings for HSL-51's gate guard. It's starting to look a bit sun bleached.

Just managed to land the 1/48 UH-3H boxing courtesy of a shop in Japan. Not cheap though, but certainly a very hard kit to find.

Just did some looking. One LHS has the 2007 kit in stock, apparently. And I *clearly* remember seeing the Penguin kit at another LHS back in the day, oogling it quite a bit (it was stupidly expensive at the time - I want to say about $50), but by the time they were blowing it out on clearance, I'd picked up the 1/72 weapons set with the Penguins, so passed it up.
I'll do some looking at other shops for you.
