Couple weeks late, but better than nothing. Finally got the pics uploaded from the AMMS show: goo.gl/5Oytf
There were some really nice builds. And quite a few mediocre ones. Kind of strange, but it was really pretty polarized that way. I've got pics of pretty much everything "worthwhile" in the link above, but here are some of my faves.
Mike Grant's 1/72 Buffalo. God I love this thing. 3rd in Advanced props:
Mike's Roland. Gold in Advanced props. Airfix kit, sliced open and scratchbuilt:
Dan McKay's super little Spit:
Best single jet went to a really clean build of the Monogram Thud. Great job re-scribing it.
Silver went to Chuck Sawyer's Superdetailed 1/32 F-4. As seen on ARC.
1/32 Golden Hawks F-86 looked great from a distance, but disappointing up close. The gloss felt really heavy (almost "glazed"), and the Alclad Gold(?) ran, or lifted, or just somehow didn't fully cover the primer.
(also, because I had almost the same pic last year. )
Excellent build of a Trumpeter Lightning. There were actually duelling 1/72 Lightnings, but this was better.
Same builder did a really nice CF-104 as well:
Michael Tanguay's awesome 1/72 C-47.
Figures.
I believe best figure went to this stretcher bearer:
I personally preferred this knight. White metal kit - must have been f'ing HEAVY!
Another nicely painted knight by the same builder:
Ernst Udet from one of the old DML kits. Their busts hold up remarkably well.
Best bust was this absolutely gorgeous Mongolian Warrior. It was jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Ships.
This HMCS Boneventure (yep, that's right, a Canadian aircraft carrier!) won a number of awards.
Interesting treatment on some 1/700 ships. Not sure I like it, but it was an interesting attempt:
Note to self: if you're going to replace a ship's stack with PE bits, make sure you fill/sand/detail inside!
Michael Tanguay's midget sub. Another seriously nice build (possibly my favourite weathering from the show)
And Michael's Circouf, with the much maligned PE railing. Michael almost had a heart attack when he caught a glimpse of the judges picking it up for a closer look. I don't blame him.
Cambier Bay on display. (ships suck to photograph!)
Beautiful Japanese carrier, marred somewhat by a dead fly in the elevator.
