So, uh, I guess I should check in. Last October, my Dad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. 9 - 12 months with treatment, 6 - 9 months without. In the past couple of months, he has lost 40+ pounds, lost his voice, and lost feeling in one leg. He used to walk 5 - 10k per day, now he couldn't walk around the block. The last few months, sucked. Christmas sucked. New Year's sucked. And the rest of the year is going to be pretty shitty too. I haven't touched a model in... a while. I've futzed around in Solidworks a bit, but the enthusiasm is gone. I'll probably pop in here occasionally, but don't be surprised if I take an unannounced hiatus. I'm not looking for sympathy, and don't mean to bum everyone out... I just wanted to explain my absence. So, uh, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Was actually wondering where you'd gone - this morning. Not looking for sympathy, but you're getting it anyway. Cancer sucks and it should be illegal.

Awful news, Mofo.
I won't give you sympathy, but you and your father are in my prayers.

Sorry to hear Mike, my condolences. Never easy losing someone, but much harder when it's a close family member.

I'm sorry, mate.
Completely unrelated, but this was the first thing I thought of. I have no idea why.
Captain Blackadder: How are you feeling, Darling? Captain Darling: Ahm- not all that good, Blackadder. Rather hoped I'd get through the whole show, go back to work at Pratt and Sons, keep wicket for the Croydon Gentlemen, marry Doris. Made a note in my diary on the way here. Simply says: "Bugger". Captain Blackadder: Well, quite.

Sorry to hear it. The lose of a parent is very hard. But I think that the end to suffering is the important thing. Unfortunately, the living must continue on and learn to cope with it...and its tough to do. I just went through this myself and I know all situations are different. However,I hope that your grief will be tempered with fond memories and be without regrets, it helped me. I hope it will help you.

Thanks for the condolences, all. I'm doing okay... Done some plastic therapy (and resin, and metal). Airbrushed some stuff for the first time in, like, eight months. Getting some CAD files ready to print.
Life is normalizing.

Hi Mike,
I don't normally check in here, but I'm glad I did. Very sorry to hear about your father. Been there done that, but what I really feel stupid about was giving you heat recently for not modeling for a long time. Totally understandable- and I'm glad to hear that you're slowly getting back in the game.
Are you going to Nanton on Saturday? I could give you a ride if you want.
Cheers,
Chuck

No worries, Chuck. I know no offence was intended.
I've actually been meaning to e-mail you, to apologize for the delay in your .50 cals, but couldn't find the time or words; I just got completely overwhelmed the last couple of months, and somehow every e-mail I started to type just sounded tacky. Anyway, they *will* be in the next batch, and I *will* bet sending it out in the next week.
Nanton? I've been waffling. I'd like to go, to enjoy the models and the modellers, but I really can't deal with the possible extraneous crap that might go along with it, so I've decided to give it a miss. I'm going to hit up a couple of hobby shops, and then hit the workbench instead. Enjoy yourself, though, and take loads of pictures.
Oh, and for the other Trashies: you might recognize Chuck from his F-4 that was in FSM a few months ago, or the monster F-4 and P-51 build threads on ARC. Well worth a look.
