My local club is having an end of year comp based on Airfix series 1 & 2 models. At a meeting a few months ago, we were asked to bring whatever we could find, and these were randomly handed out to the other members. Mine was the 1/72 Islander, which will be finished as ZK-DBV from Milford Sound Flightseeing. It's almost ready for decals - just need to touch up in a few *ahem* areas... Fiddly bits almost done: Gloss white...had fun with that! Royal blue added to lower fuselage: Red added to wingtips - note the *minor* disaster when removing the masking.. Green pinstripe added to lower fuselage - there was a decal supplied for this, but I'm a masochist. Not only did I have to match the colour, I had a *lot* of fun masking it (I hate working with really long, thin decals..) Bloody photobucket is acting up.....it won't show the last two images!

Weird. I can't make it work, either. ----- Nifty idea for a build. I like it. Gloss white? Alclad white primer/microfiller. Add a touch of retarder and some levelling thinner, and it will dry to a really nice semi- to low-gloss. Tamiya gloss white (decanted spraybomb), Mr. Color Gloss White or a good lacquer gloss over top for shine. My current weapon of choice, and I'm really, really happy with it. The red... I was going to ask whether you meant the overspray on the flaps, or what looks like a little nick on the stbd underside... then I scrolled down. At that point, I'd just sand the whole area down and re-spray. Or... tarps. Carefully positioned tarps covering the wing tip while mechanics work on it, or somesuch.

Oh, THERE'S the problem. You posted on Z5, too. This board is way to classy to let you cross-post from there.

Nice work on the paint and decals - nothing like a bit of Kiwi flavour

Because the doors were such a bad fit, I sanded them flush and filled the gaps in between the door and the fuselage....so I needed to represent the join somehow. Figured it would be a simple enough job with some home made decals.....worked a treat! Wing's on, but despite adding noseweight, she's still a tail sitter. The side of the display case is propping her up. Guess I'm gonna have to make a base now..

I'm digging this. Nice to see something waaay out of the mainstream for a change. Oh, and I'd meant to comment on the decal thread, too. Fun, isn't it? It's like a whole new world opens up for you when you figure out how to do your own artwork. (also: a ton of empathy for the decal guys - I've got one blurry photo of half a special marking... can you do decals for it??? )

I've pretty much decided that wherever possible, I'm only gonna do civvy subjects. Which doesn't preclude military aircraft, just that they're not gonna wear military schemes. Which means I'm going to have to work on my decal design skills Send through the pic, Mofo...I'll have a gander and see what's what..
