It was good to see everyone too, though somehow I missed Gnat. My pics are here: www.flickr.com/photos/airjiml2/sets/72157631032591548/We are still at the Contemporary Hotel and sadly head home tomorrow. Overall, I enjoyed myself and the theme park and my travel companions were a nice diversion. I will admit that I both spent the least ever in the vendor room and drank the least amount of beer ever at a Nats. Guess I'm getting old. Oddly, I expected a bigger turnout in both models and modelers. Seemed like a smaller Nats then is usually found on the east coast. Jim

Thanks for the pics, Jim, you picked up some I didn't. Oddly enough it says you took the pictures January 8, 2006. K

I think the economy might be kicking in, and Orlando in August isn't cheap (Due to the influx of us Europeans on holiday!) Having said that, it's probably my best chance of getting to a US Nats someday for that reason! I like the thinking behind the Voodoo!

It was an excellent model turn out even if there were no real show stoppers, the overall quality was high, and it was good to see Gnat, TK, Timmay, AirJim, along with everyone else. Probably the best show I've been to as far as meeting old friends go. I found some good book deals but nothing on models really...didn't buy a single one. Having said that... I went to my local hobby shop yesterday to discover they are shutting down and everything is 50% off! Sadly there are no 1/72 scale kits I need or want but did pick up a 1/32 scale Revell He 162 and both a CMK resin weapon bay and control surface set for it...all for about $35. This was too good to pass up...I haven't built a 1/32 scale model since high school but I'll build this one just for fun. I've got a German friend who will be happy to pay for it after I run it to Nats next year so why not...or maybe just keep it if I can find a place for it. Joe

Been back for a week, and just now got around to activating my account here. Mandie and I had a blast, and it was great to finally meet Da King after all these years, although we only had a few minutes to bask in His glory.
The show was fun, but adding Disney to the mix made things really hectic..and for some reason the show and vendor rooms also shut down hours earlier than usual for a Nats, meaning that those of us who took the side trips to KSC and Kermit Weeks' place didn't get much time to enjoy the actual show. Having it at Disney was a fun one-time thing, but I'll be glad to get back to a regular convention hotel next year. I heard the final model count was just over 2,700..decent, but no record-breaker. Great stuff as always, but no "OMG thatz 2 kewl" entries that we'll be talking/bitching about for years to come.
I was stunned to take a second in 1/72 Single-Engine Prop (Allied) with my Airfix Tomahawk. I didn't think it was remotely competitive, and only entered it to have something on the table. Picked up a few bargains in the Vendor Rooms, including the new Eduard Bf-110 for about 20% off retail and a couple of Hasegawa B-24Js for about a third of what they go for on the street, but my Vendor Room haul wasn't really all that big..only four kits, a couple of decal sheets and some aftermarket bits.
We took a couple of days to do the Disney thing after the show (couldn't pass up the "bargain" rate at a Dizzy resort) then spent several days working our way back north. Stopped at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum in Savannah GA, and spent the better part of a day crawling around USS Yorktown in Charleston NC (first time I'd been up close to a carrier..them suckers is HUGE.) Spent a day in Fayetteville with Mandie's son, who showed us around Ft. Bragg and Pope AAF (also checked out the Airborne/Special Ops museum..really cool!) Then we wrapped up the trip with a day at our favorite haunt, the USAF Museum in Dayton.
Fortunately we had built in a "decompression day" after we got home before returning to work. On Tuesday I walked into a shitstorm, as the main file server had crashed the week before, corrupting the entire database..meaning ever single thing we put on the air on four TV stations had to be re-dubbed. Naturally, the Company's "squeeze ever penny (and employee) 'til is squeals like a pig" austerity policy means that a mirror back-up server was deemed an expensive luxury (I think they may be reconsidering that now..I'm sure the crash cost us far more in lost revenue than a back-up server would cost.)

It was a great trip, got to meet a bunch of great guys (Kyrre) see a few ( Joe, Gnat, Jim). Disney was cool, I went from age 48 to 6 yrs old in less than 60 seconds. What wasn't cool was the cold and sinus issues I developed on the trip home and all of last week. Think i may finally be getting over it. Looking forward to next year in Colorado, already got the hotel booked. Party on guys! Mandie
